Reading Nook: Bookcase Preparation

Due to the fact that the bed frame portion of the reading nook is so high of the ground (3 feet), there is a lot of empty space available for some creative use. After some thought and Pinterest inspiration I decided on putting in some bookshelves.

The plan was to put in a solid foundation / frame for the bookcase to sit on – primarily because that part of the floor is not level (approximately out by ½”). Using 2 x 4 framing studs I built a solid (and more importantly, level) frame that should be suitable for the bookcase when it is built next.

There are a number of gaps between the foundation and the floor, so to ensure there is a solid contact I used wood shims. These also proved helpful in ensuring everything was level.

Completed frame - level!

Next step will be to decide if I will extend this out on both sides perpendicular to the one it is currently.
